Copper wire is a wonderful medium with which to make structured decorative jewellery or home decor items. Combined with semi precious stones or Austrian and Czech glass crystal beads you can learn to make a unique piece to give as a special present perhaps for a valentine or anniversary gift.
This one day beginners level wire weaving course focuses on learning wire weaving techniques, and how to create a heart shaped frame to weave into either a pendant, key ring or mini sun catcher.
In the first part of the course you will learn the techniques to make a heart shaped frame as the main structure to your piece. In the second part of the course you will learn wire weaving techniques and have a chance to practice this before weaving the frame. You will then have the chance to add spiral decoration, gemstones and crystals to your work to finish off the piece.
By the end of the day you will be able to to:
1. Fashion a heart shaped wire frame in preparation for wire weaving.
2. Master the correct tension and techniques for wire weaving
3. Be able to weave two to three wire weaving patterns.
4. Be able to decorate the wire woven heart with gemstones and crystals
This course runs either at Lechlade Memorial Hall (maximum 10 people) 09.30 – 16.30 or from our boat in Lechlade Marina (see below for more details) and is aimed at those who have undertaken some wirework before, but have not necessarily done any wire weaving. Before undertaking this course it is advised that you are able to form basic loops, wrapped loops and spirals, or have undertaken our Introduction to copper wire and bead jewellery 1 day course.
The use of all tools and materials to complete the projects are included in the price. However, there is the opportunity to purchase further wirework kits and materials on the day.
Please note that tea and coffee are provided, but please bring your own packed lunch. You can find the next available dates for the course here. You can also find this course on craftcourses.com. You can also find more pictures of items made on the course in our course gallery here
